Advanced settings
The Advanced button at the top-right corner of the layout editor opens a dialog box with additional settings that apply to the overall profile update experience, beyond individual field configuration.
To access these settings, navigate to Configuration → Self-Service → Directory Self Service → Self Update Layout, click the
Advanced icon next to the layout you want to edit, configure the options described below, and click Save.
General Settings
- Force users to update mandatory fields when they log in to the end-user portal: When enabled, users are prompted to fill in any mandatory fields on the layout the next time they log in, rather than being able to skip them.
- Disable write privilege for users in the Profile tab: When enabled, the Profile tab becomes read-only for all users — they can view their information but cannot make any changes.
Smart Sidebar settings
Advanced settings for the users left side bar: The Smart Sidebar is a panel displayed to users on the left side of the end-user portal, showing contextual directory information about the user. Uncheck to hide the sidebar entirely.
- Show 'Reporting To': Displays the user's manager in the sidebar.
- Show 'Direct Report': Displays the user's direct reports in the sidebar.
- Enable users to update their photos by editing: Allows users to upload a profile photo. Select the LDAP attribute used to store the photo — either thumbnailPhoto or jpegPhoto. When enabled, the following constraints apply:
- Size (in KB): Maximum allowed file size for the uploaded photo.
- Dimension (px): Maximum pixel dimension for the uploaded photo.
- Extension: Comma-separated list of permitted file formats (e.g.,
jpg,jpeg,bmp,gif,png).
